Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHS) are a class of organic compounds with two or more benzene rings. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are hydrocarbons with more than two benzene rings in their molecules, including more than 150 kinds of compounds such as naphthalene, anthracene, phenanthrene and pyrene. The full name is also known as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Among them, 15 belong to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Because benzo (a) pyrene is the first environmental chemical carcinogen found and has strong carcinogenicity, benzo (a) pyrene is often used as the representative of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, accounting for 1% - 20% of all carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

According to the decision of the German technical equipment and consumer goods Commission (atav), for the products certified by GS after April 1, 2008, 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) concerned by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) must be tested to ensure compliance with relevant requirements. For the products certified before April 1, 2008, the risk analysis for PAHs must be carried out within one year. If the products fail to meet the relevant provisions of PAH, the certification will be revoked.

The main 18 compounds of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are naphthalene, acenaphthene, acenaphthene, fluorene, phenanthrene, anthracene, fluoranthene, pyrene, benzo (a) anthracene, benzo, benzo (b) fluoranthene, benzo (a) pyrene, Indeno (1,2,3-cd) pyrene, dibenzo (a, H) onion and benzo (g.h,) flower, 1-methylnai and 2-methylnai.
