BIS certification in India
Introduction to BIS certification in India

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is responsible for product certification. India is unified - product regulatory standards and requirements to ensure product quality and safety, The product certification system was implemented in 1955. According to the BIS act, 1986, the product certification in India adopts the principle of voluntary certification. However, considering the factors of public health and safety and mass consumption, the Indian government issued an immediate decree to implement compulsory certification for specific products in order to provide end consumers with quality guaranteed, safe and reliable products.

Importance of battery bis certification

All products listed in compulsory certification need to obtain product certification certificate according to Indian product standard before they can enter the market. Therefore, it is necessary for manufacturers who want to enter the Indian market to understand India's product certification system. Deity (Ministry of electronic information technology of India) released 15 new products of compulsory registration projects in November 2014, expanding the number of compulsory regulated products from the original 15 to 30, including batteries, mobile power supplies, etc. Battery products certified by bis will be marked with ISI label. Once the battery products are marked with "ISI mark", it means that they comply with relevant Indian Standards. The label has broad influence in India and surrounding countries, good reputation, and is a reliable guarantee for product quality.

Series division principle of battery bis certification

1. Same rated voltage

2. The same structural design and cell

3. Same electrode, electrolyte

Indian BIS certification standard

Portable source:IS 13252(Part 1)

Battery bis certification test items

1.Continuous charge test

2.Vibration test

3.High temperature impact test

4.Temperature cycle test

5.External short circuit test

6.Free fall test

7.Mechanical impact test

8.Thermal shock test

9.Extrusion test

10. Low voltage test

11.Overcharge test (nickel series)

12.Overcharge test (lithium series)

13.Forced discharge test

14.High rate charging protection test (lithium series only)

15.Incorrect installation (nickel series only)

Battery bis certification requirements and precautions

1.The validity period is 2 years

2. BIS can only be tested locally

3.Certification will be faster if the applicant meets the following conditions:

a.The address of the factory in the application form is the manufacturer

b.b. The factory has all testing equipment that meets relevant Indian Standards

c. The product is confirmed to meet the requirements of relevant Indian Standards (test according to the standards in its own laboratory or other independent laboratories, and submit the test report with the application form)

Preparation of battery bis certification data

1. Application form

2. The appointment form certifying that there is an agent in India, or the supporting document certifying that there is an office in India of the manufacturer, and the license of the Reserve Bank of India

3. Documents proving the establishment of the company, such as registration certificate

4. Process flow chart, which describes the whole process of product manufacturing (from raw materials to finished products)

5. Quality control system (such as quality manual, quality control plan, test arrangement, etc.)

6. Provide other details of product or system certification (if any)

7. Provide details of components or raw materials used for product manufacturing before certification (if any)

8. List of manufacturing machines

9. List of experimental equipment during the test

10. Product design drawing

11. Details of qualification certificates and experience of laboratory supervisors, technicians and QC staff

12. test report from recognized independent laboratory or factory's own laboratory

13. The layout diagram of the plant shall clearly show the main production machines, laboratories, etc

14. Traffic diagram near the factory, schematic diagram from the nearest airport or railway station to the factory and detailed description from India to the factory

15.Back bill of exchange

Battery bis certification process

1. Submit the application.

Foreign manufacturers who want to obtain bis certification generally need to use a special application form and prepare relevant documents to apply to bis headquarters in New Delhi.

2. Review records.

BIS will review the application documents and materials submitted by the applicant, and record the application if the procedures are complete. The applicant must pay the corresponding processing fee.

3. Initial factory inspection

BIS will assign no more than 2 officials to the factory for inspection. The applicant shall bear the travel and visa expenses of the official group to the factory for inspection and the corresponding inspection expenses.

4. Issue certificates.

If the initial inspection and test results are qualified, and the applicant agrees to implement the inspection and test scheme approved by BIS and pay the BIS identification fee, the certificate can be issued to the applicant. The certificate is valid for 1 year. After the certificate is granted, the holder shall pay the identification fee and the annual certificate fee every year.

5. Post certification supervision.

BIS monitors the quality of its certified products through routine supervision of the executor and surprise inspection and testing of samples in factories and markets. If the sample taken from the factory or market meets the requirements through the factory inspection and independent testing, the certificate can be updated. The holder applies to bis for renewal by submitting the specified form, and the certificate renewal fee is rs. 500. The holder shall also bear the cost of sample inspection.
